At least in the summer (the winters can be delightful in their own way, especially if you like snow)! Every time I visit the old homestead I’m reminded of the beauty of the area (Leelanau County). Here’s the view of our vineyard and hillside from the dining room table — not a bad view whilst eating!
And I was closely monitoring the temperatures in Oklahoma (mostly the upper 90’s and lower 100’s) — Michigan had mid-80’s with low humidity – July and August are great times to NOT be in brutally hot and humid Oklahoma.
My running was much more comfortable as well. And, my visit coincided with the tail end of the Traverse City Film Festival (http://www.traversecityfilmfest.org/tixSYS/2008/filmguide/title/detail/). The festival is in its fourth year (Michael Moore organizes this event each year — multiple venues, many non-mainstream films) and it is becoming quite the event to attend if you are in the area. Next year I may have to return for the entire festival. Many of the films that I would have liked to have seen were already sold out.
Here’s our old, but stately, Catalpa tree in the backyard. When it blooms, generally around the 4th of July every year, it is covered with white blossoms from top to bottom — quite a sight to see.
This one last photo before I sign off is of a thistle growing up within a wild vine near the parking lot of our winery (this would never be allowed in the actual cultivated areas of the vineyard!).
If you ever happen to find yourself in or around Leelanau County, feel free to stop by and visit our winery and vineyards and enjoy the breathtaking views . . . Boskydel Winery and Vineyards, www.boskydel.com.
