The Learning Continues . . .

By Tom Rink

During the last half of 2008, I participated in an online, self-paced learning opportunity through the Special Libraries Association call SLA’s 23 Things — an exposure/exploration to many of the Web 2.0 technologies.  And, it was wonderful!  I’m now totally hooked on blogging, wikis, RSS feeds, flickr, technorati, de.licio.us, and many other productivity tools and web-based products.

Today, I had an opportunity to further expand this learning as the Washington, DC Chapter of SLA hosted a Webinar entitled: “Beyond 23 Things: 100 Tools in 100 Minutes.”  We covered the first 25 sites  of innovative web-based resources for librarians today and will cover twenty-five more in successive presentations in April, September, and November.    The sites were broken down into “themes” (let’s see if I can remember them all) . . . History, Search Engines, Politics, hm . . . and a couple more.  I can’t wait to get to the rest.   I’ll be sharing some of these sites of interest from time to time, so stay tuned.

For now, here are a couple to get you started (ironically enough, these did not come from today’s presentation).

For those of you who would like to make your customized tag clouds (you can add your own words, colors, fonts, etc. or have them constructed from existing blogs, etc.) . . . check out:  http://www.wordle.net/

Or, how about this aggregated list of “faves!”  http://www.allmyfaves.com/  A little something for everyone.

Enjoy!
