College Basketball 2015, Week Five!

127After losing to Notre Dame in overtime last week, Michigan State took care of business against the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff on Saturday. The Spartans already have three losses at this early juncture in the season (two of the losses to ranked teams and the third loss in overtime, geez, not a very auspicious start to the season).   Needless to say, it could be a wild year for the Spartans if they don’t find some consistency in the shooting department.  The number of undefeated teams in the AP top-25 has dropped to eight (8).  The Big Ten Conference only has three (3) teams currently ranked in the AP top-25: Wisconsin (#5), Ohio State (#12), and Maryland (#19).  Michigan and Michigan State both dropped from the rankings this week. Next up for the Spartans this week, Oakland (on Sunday).  Go Green!

The upsets among the top-25 this week included:
Wisconsin (#2) losing to Duke (#4).
Wichita State (#8) losing to Utah (#25) by one (1) point in overtime.
North Carolina (#12) losing to unranked Iowa by five (5) points.
San Diego State (#13) losing to unranked Washington.
Miami (#15) losing to unranked Green Bay.
West Virginia (#16) losing to unranked LSU by one (1) point.
Michigan (#17) losing to unranked New Jersey Institute of Technology by only two (2) points.
Arkansas (#18) losing to Iowa State (#20) and losing to unranked Clemson by three (3) points..
Michigan State (#19) losing to unranked Notre Dame by one (1) point in overtime.

The close calls (wins by six points or less [two scores]) among the top-25 this week included:
Kansas (#11) defeating unranked Florida by only six (6) points.

The losses to higher-ranked teams among the top-25 this week included:
Texas (#6) losing to Kentucky (#1).
Maryland (#21) losing to Virginia (#7).
