College Basketball 2015, Week Nine!

127The Spartans only played once this week, but managed to put together an excellent effort against the Hoosiers in an easy victory on Monday. Only three (3) teams remain undefeated after the first week of January.  The Big Ten Conference has only three (3) teams currently ranked in the AP top-25: Wisconsin (#4), Maryland (#11), and Ohio State (#22).  Next up for the Spartans this week, at Iowa (tomorrow) and at home against Northwestern (Sunday).  Go Green!

The upsets among the top-25 this week included:
Villanova (#6) losing to unranked Seton Hall by five (5) points.
Iowa State (#9) losing to unranked South Carolina by four (4) points.
Texas (#10) losing to Oklahoma (#16).
Notre Dame (#13) defeating North Carolina (#18) by only one (1) point.
St. John’s  (#15) losing to unranked Butler by four (4) points.
St. John’s (#16) losing to unranked Seton Hall.
Washington (#21) losing to unranked California by six (6) points.
Washington (#21) losing to unranked Stanford.
Northern Iowa (#23) losing to unranked Evansville by only three (3) points.
Colorado State (#24) losing to unranked New Mexico.
Georgetown (#25) losing to unranked Xavier.

The close calls (wins by six points or less [two scores]) among the top-25 this week included:
Kentucky (#1) defeating unranked Ole Miss by only three (3) points in overtime.
Iowa State (#17) defeating unranked Oklahoma State by only two (2) points.
Ohio State (#22) defeating unranked Minnesota by only two (2) points in overtime.
Arkansas (#23) defeating unranked Georgia by only four (4) points.
Colorado State (#24) defeating unranked Boise State by six (6) points.

The losses to higher-ranked teams among the top-25 this week included:
North Carolina (#18) losing to Notre Dame (#13) by only one (1) point.
Baylor (#22) losing to Oklahoma (#18).
St. John’s (#24) losing to Villanova (#8).
