Alarm! Alarm!

Having lived more than thirty years in Oklahoma, I have learned that when the tocsin rings out (warning us of an approaching tornado) it is time to seek shelter.  Of course, our current warning system uses sirens instead of bells, but, ’tis a signal nonetheless.

tocsin

tok-sin \, noun;

1.  a signal, especially of alarm, sounded on a bell or bells.
2.  a bell used to sound an alarm.
