College Basketball 2015, Week Nineteen!

127Okay basketball fans . . . throw the polls out the window (although Michigan State did finally crack into the top-25 in the last, pre-tournament AP poll).  The brackets are set and it’s time to dance!  What an exciting Championship week, you can already tell it’s March.  Let the Madness begin.  The Michigan State Spartans started the Big Ten Tournament with an easy win over the Buckeyes of Ohio State in the quarterfinals followed by a victory over Maryland (#8) in the semi-finals.  The Spartans then met the Badgers of Wisconsin (#6) in the finals where they played them tough through regulation only to fall to the Badgers in overtime.   Regardless, the Spartans earned a #7 seed in the east bracket of the NCAA tournament and will start off by facing the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday.  Go Green!

The upsets among the top-25 this week included:
Duke (#2) losing to Notre Dame (#11).
Virginia (#3) losing to North Carolina (#19) by four (4) points.
Maryland (#8) losing to unranked Michigan State by four (4) points.
Kansas (#9) losing to Iowa State (#13) by four (4) points.
Louisville (#14) losing to North Carolina (#19).
Utah (#17) losing to unranked Oregon by three (3) points.
Butler (#22) losing to unranked Xavier by six (6) points in overtime.
Georgetown (#23) losing to unranked Xavier by two (2) points.
Davidson (#24) losing to unranked VCU.
Boise State (#25) losing to unranked Wyoming by five (5) points in overtime.

The close calls (wins by six points or less [two scores] or in overtime) among the top-25 this week included:
Villanova (#4) defeating unranked Providence by only two (2) points.
Arizona (#5) defeating unranked UCLA by six (6) points.
Wisconsin (#6) defeating unranked Michigan State in overtime.
Maryland (#8) defeating unranked Indiana by six (6) points.
Kansas (#9) defeating unranked TCU by five (5) points.
Iowa State (#13) defeating unranked Texas by only two (2) points.
SMU (#20) defeating unranked East Carolina by six (6) points.
Georgetown (#23) defeating unranked Creighton by only five (5) points.
Davidson (#24) defeating unranked LaSalle by only one (1) point.

The losses to higher-ranked teams among the top-25 this week included:
Oklahoma (#15) losing to Iowa State (#13) by two (2) points.
Baylor (#16) losing to Kansas (#9).
West Virginia (#18) losing to Baylor (#16).
North Carolina (#19) losing to Notre Dame (#11).
