Trivia in the Kitchen, Number Thirty-Five!

I think it is safe to say that spring has sprung in Oklahoma.  Our temperatures are consistently now in the 70s and 80s which means that the stifling heat of summer will not be too far behind.  And this means that it will be “hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.”   Unfortunately, concrete does not conduct enough heat to cook an egg . . . but the hot metal hood of a car does.

And now, how about some egg trivia (courtesy of the Incredible Edible Egg)?

  • 10% of the world’s egg supply is produced in the United States (75 billion eggs per year).
  • Most eggs are laid between 7 AM and 11 AM.
  • There are thirteen (13) essential nutrients in one egg.
  • You cannot cook an egg in its shell in the microwave (it will explode).
  • Eggs contain Choline (an essential nutrient for pregnant women).
  • A large egg contains 70 calories.
  • One egg contains 6 grams of protein.
  • A chef’s hat is said to have a pleat for each of the many ways you can cook eggs.
  • The Incredible Edible Egg slogan has been around for more than 30 years.
  • There is protein in both the white and the yolk.
  • Eggs contain one of the highest-quality proteins of any food.
