College Basketball 2016, Week Thirteen!

127It is getting to be crunch time.  With only eight more games remaining in the Big Ten regular season, and the Spartans 2-1/2 games from the top, every game counts as March approaches.   An easy week for the Spartans who rolled against both  Northwestern (hitting 16 three-point shots in the process) as well as Rutgers (largest margin of victory against a Big Ten opponent [34 points] since 2008).  The Big Ten currently has five (5) teams in the AP top-25: Maryland (#4), Iowa (#5), Michigan State (#10),  Purdue (#18), and Indiana (#22).

Next up for the Spartans: only one game this week: on the road against Michigan (Saturday).  Go Green!

The upsets this week included:
North Carolina (#2) losing to Louisville (#19) by six points.
Iowa (#3) losing to Maryland (#8) by six (6) points.
Texas A&M (#5) losing to unranked Arkansas by three (3) points.
West Virginia (#9) losing to unranked Florida.
SMU (#12) losing to unranked Houston by three (3) points.
Miami (#15) losing to unranked NC State.
Baylor (#15) losing to unranked Texas.
Indiana (#19) losing to unranked Wisconsin by three (3) points in overtime.
Notre Dame (#25) losing to unranked Syracuse.

The close calls this week (won by six points or less [two scores] or in overtime) included:
Oklahoma (#1) defeating unranked LSU by two (2) points.
Kansas (#4) defeating Kentucky (#20) by six (6) points in overtime.
Maryland (#8) defeating unranked Ohio State by five (5) points.
Providence (#10) defeating unranked Georgetown by four (4) points.
Virginia (#11) defeating unranked Wake Forest by one (1) point.
Baylor (#17) defeating unranked Oklahoma State by four (4) points.
Indiana (#19) defeating unranked Minnesota by six (6) points.
Purdue (#21) defeating unranked Minnesota by four (4) points.
Purdue (#21) defeating unranked Nebraska by five (5) points.

Top-25 match-ups won by the higher-ranked team included:
Kansas (#4) defeating Kentucky (#20) by six (6) points in overtime.
Texas A&M (#5) defeating Iowa State (#14).
Virginia (#11) defeating Louisville (#16).
Xavier (#7) defeating Providence (#11).
