College Basketball 2016, Week Eighteen!

127The Spartans were on fire from beyond the arc on Wednesday night (Forbes himself was 11 of 16) and easily handled Rutgers on the road (they won by 31 points).  The Spartans finished their season at home on Saturday where they had no trouble defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes. In two short weeks, the Spartans managed to rise from eighth place to second place in the Big Ten and will enter the Big Ten Tournament on Friday as the #2 seed behind league Champs Indiana.  The Big Ten continues to have five (5)  teams in the AP top-25: Michigan State (#2), Indiana (#10),  Purdue (#13), Maryland (#18),  and Iowa (#20).

Next up for the Spartans: the winner of the game between Penn State and Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament (Friday).  Selection Sunday is coming!  Go Green!

The upsets this week included:
Miami (#7) losing to unranked Virginia Tech.
SMU (#24) losing to unranked Cincinnati.

The close calls this week (won by six points or less [two scores] or in overtime) included:
Xavier (#5) defeating unranked Creighton by five (5) points.
Oklahoma (#6) defeating Baylor (#19) by two (2) points.
North Carolina (#8) defeating Duke (#17) by four (4) points.
Louisville (#11) defeating unranked Georgia Tech by three (3) points.
Indiana (#12) defeating Iowa (#16) by three (3) points.
Utah (#13) defeating unranked Colorado by two (2) points.
Arizona (#18) defeating California (#25) by three (3) points.
California (#25) defeating unranked Arizona State by three (3) points.

Top-25 match-ups won by the higher-ranked team included:
Kansas (#1) defeating Iowa State (#21).
Virginia (#4) defeating Louisville (#11).
Oklahoma (#6) defeating Baylor (#19) by two (2) points.
North Carolina (#8) defeating Duke (#17) by four (4) points.
West Virginia (#10) defeating Baylor (#19).
Indiana (#12) defeating Maryland (#14).
Indiana (#12) defeating Iowa (#16) by three (3) points.
