logo-rio2016-enThe 2016 Summer Olympics are just around the corner (in 121 days from August 5th through August 21st [with the Paralympics shortly thereafter from September 7th through September 18th]) . . . are you ready?   You are probably wondering why I would bring up the Olympics this far in advance?  Well, today marks the 120th anniversary of the first Olympic athlete from the United States to win a gold medal.  Back in 1896, at the first Olympic Games held in the modern era, in Athens, Greece, James Brendan Connolly competed in the hop, skip, and jump (the triple jump as it is called today).  His jump of 45 feet was better than his nearest competitor by more than three feet.  That year, the American team of ten men won nine of the twelve events.
