Today also coincides with the birthday of George Inness, an American landscape painter extraordinaire! Inness was born in New York (1825), died in Scotland (1894), studied at the Barbizon School (France), and was part of the Hudson River School movement. “According to his son, he was viewing the sunset, when he threw up his hands into the air and exclaimed, ‘My God! oh, how beautiful!’, fell to the ground, and died minutes later.” (Source: Wikipedia)
I’m really partial to landscapes and my favorite Inness landscape painting is “The Storm” (somewhat appropriate since I live in Oklahoma [tornado alley]). It is an oil on canvas, and it currently resides at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
