College Basketball 2020, Week Four!

Well, it is early in the season, but the Spartans have already suffered their second loss of the season (to the Virginia Tech Hokies), but followed up this loss with a couple of wins (Georgia and UCLA) for fifth place at the Maui Jim Maui Invitation Tournament.  This week proved to be a challenging week for many ranked teams who suffered losses.  The Big Ten conference has three (3) teams in the AP top-25: Michigan State [#3, but will definitely drop a bit], Maryland [#5] and Ohio State [#10].  Following a couple of big wins against ranked opponents, Michigan may find itself among the ranked this week.

Next up for the Spartans: at home to host the Duke Blue Devils [#1] on Tuesday.  Go Green!

The upsets this week included:
Duke (#1) losing to unranked Stephen F. Austin by two (2) points in overtime.
Michigan State (#3) losing to unranked Virginia Tech by five (5) points.
North Carolina (#6) losing to unranked Michigan.
Gonzaga (#8) losing to unranked Michigan.
Texas Tech (#12) losing to unranked Iowa.
Texas Tech (#12) losing to unranked Creighton in overtime.
Utah State (#15) losing to unranked St. Mary’s.
Tennessee (#17) losing to unranked Florida State by three (3) points.
VCU (#20) losing to unranked Purdue by three (3) points.

The close calls this week (won by six points or less [two scores] or in overtime) included:
Kansas (#4) defeating unranked Dayton by six (6) points in overtime.
Arizona (#14) defeating unranked Pepperdine by two (2) points.
Memphis (#16) defeating unranked NC State by five (5) points.
Colorado (#21) defeating unranked Clemson by four (4) points.
Florida (#24) defeating unranked Marshall by six (6) points.

Top-25 match-ups won by the higher-ranked team included:
North Carolina (#6) defeating Oregon (#11) by four (4) points.
Gonzaga (#8) defeating Oregon (#11) by one (1) point.
Oregon (#11) defeating Seton Hall (#13) by two (2) points.
Tennessee (#17) defeating VCU (#20) by three (3) points.
