Well, we are midway through the month and the heat of summer is bearing down upon us.  But to help put the temperatures we are experiencing into perspective, here’s a wonderful infographic (courtesy of the BBC) that shows us the range from what truly is “absolute cold” to what is “absolute hot.”  Enjoy!

Stay Safe Out There!

Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, the summer travel season has officially started.  So, be careful when you are out and about and never risk driving drunk (or buzzed), it is just not worth it!  Here is an infographic that highlights some of the dangers.  And, while the statistics referenced in this infographic are a bit old (2012) you can always get more up-to-date statistics from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Happy Mother’s Day 2018!

May 13, 2018

To celebrate all of our mothers out there, here is a fun infographic that shows how we “thanked out moms” in 2017.  Additionally, here are a few quotations that capture how I feel about my mother.

“Mother: the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind.”  (Kahil Gibran)

“A mother is a mother still, the holiest thing alive.”  (Samuel Taylor Coleridge)

Winter Enthusiast!

February 17, 2018

Happy Saturday!  We may be on the downside of the winter season (and spring is officially a little more than a month away), but we are smack dab in the middle of the Winter Olympics so here is a great infographic that shows the number of calories that can be burned by the various Winter Olympic sports.    Hmm, snow shoveling made the list . . . I wasn’t aware that this was an Olympic sport.  Enjoy!

Happy New Year, 2018!

January 1, 2018

Growing up, New Year’s Day meant you watched the Tournament of Roses Parade in the morning and then settled in for a day of college football games culminating with the “granddaddy of them all,” the Rose Bowl.   Obviously, flowers are the key ingredient for the floats in the parade and the rules are clear: “It is a rule of the parade that all surfaces of the float framework must be covered in natural materials (such as flowers, plants, seaweeds, seeds, bark, vegetables, or nuts, for example); furthermore, no artificial flowers or plant material are allowed, nor can the materials be artificially colored.”  Marching Bands are another key component of the parade and only a select few are chosen each year (and the competition is spirited).  So, keeping with the “flower theme,” here is an infographic on “flower power.”  Enjoy!  Happy New Year!

December 21, 2017

Happy Thursday!  On this the day of the winter solstice (the official first day of winter), let’s take a moment to ponder (by way of an incredible infographic) the extremes of temperature that we experience not only here on Earth, but throughout the universe. Again, let’s put things into perspective!   Enjoy!

December 14, 2017

Drunk driving continues to have a major impact on the holiday season.  Here is an infographic (updated for 2016, courtesy of SCRAM Systems) that puts this offense in perspective . . . very “sobering” statistics indeed.
