Also Know As . . . !

October 21, 2017

1024px-Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa2The term AKA (which stands for, also known as) originated in the United States in the mid-twentieth century as a way of designating a person with additional names or aliases.  Here are the aliases for the Japanese master artist and printmaker Hokusai (Katsushika Hokusai) who was born near this date in 1760 (the exact date is not certain).  It has been reported that Hokusai had numerous pseudonyms during his lifetime (more than thirty), and while I cannot ascertain each and every one of them, here are a few of the more popular ones used by this artist:

  • Gakyōjin
  • Shunrō
  • Taito
  • Sōri
  • Manji
  • Iitsu
  • Kakō

Bird of Paradise!

August 9, 2017

When it comes to exotic flowers, I’ve always been enthralled by the bird of paradise (native to South Africa).   I, of course, am not talented when it comes to growing or caring for plants.  But here is an origami version that will just have to do for those of us with other than green thumbs.  You’ll need a few extra materials besides the paper, but it will be well worth it.

Necktie of the Month – April 2017!

April 3, 2017

This month I will not be highlighting a necktie from my personal collection, but rather I’ll be sharing a video I found for an origami version of a shirt and tie using a dollar bill.  Very cool indeed (obviously, the cleaner and crisper the dollar bill, the more stunning the look of this one).  Good luck and happy folding!

Giving Money as a Gift!

March 8, 2017

Yes, when it comes to giving or receiving gifts, money (cash) is rarely a bad option.  The “how” you give then becomes a bit more important.  Obviously the simple insertion of cash into an envelope or card is the quickest and easiest method, but with a little creativity, you can certainly wow or amaze anyone (especially young children) with these creations . . . money origami!  Fold them up, then wrap them up in a box.  Too labor intensive for you?  That’s okay, it was just a thought!  Enjoy!  Check out some more Money Origami videos (courtesy of YouTube).

How Romantic!

February 8, 2017

In light of the fact that Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, you still have time to prepare this lovely flower and vase for your Valentine . . . happy folding!

In my next installment of fun origami projects, here are the directions for completing the Star Wars X-Wing Fighter.  Happy folding!

This One’s a Little Batty!

October 6, 2016

Well, since Halloween is right around the corner, you can never start creating your decorations soon enough.  Here are a couple of designs for origami bats (the first one is a tad bit easier than the second, depending on how challenged you wish to be).  Happy folding!

The Falcon!

September 9, 2016

Happy Friday!  As we head into the weekend, if you are in need of an idea about what to do, here is another origami project you could tackle.  Since I seem to be on a Star Wars kick lately, why not feature some of the origami versions of the assorted flying ships.  Let’s start with the Millenium Falcon (courtesy of Shu Sugamata).  Happy folding!

The Dark Side!

August 9, 2016

Last month I shared the video for creating an origami Yoda.  Well this month, how about a little Darth Vader (courtesy of Tadashi Mori)?  Happy folding!
