What Am I Waiting For?

July 16, 2012
I don’t consider myself entrepreneurial or much of a risk-taker.  I like safe, I like comfortable, I like known, I like routine.  I used to think that if I researched an issue enough, and knew everything there was to know about something, that it would diminish these apprehensions.  But alas, it does not.  For it is during these reflective, evaluative times that “paralysis by analysis” rears its ugly head.  But having just said all of that, are there times when we really need to shake things up no matter how uncomfortable it makes us?   Sometimes you’ve just got to risk failure to succeed.   The following quotations are worth pondering in depth.  Some Monday morning food for thought.
“Don’t prepare. Begin. Our enemy is not lack of preparation.  The enemy is resistance, our chattering brain producing excuses. Start before you are ready.”  — Steven Pressfield
“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all.”  — J.K. Rowling

Hodgepodge of Advice?

September 30, 2011

I ran across the below quotation earlier this week (by an unknown author) and liked it immediately.  I also took the time to ponder each individual phrase and attempted to discern how my life reflects each phrase.  My determination: I could buy into some of them more fully, but overall, I think I’m doing okay.

Without risk (taking chances), life would be pretty boring (I could certainly improve a bit in this department).  Never regret something you’ve done (save regret for those things that you didn’t do but that you wish you’d done).  Things do go wrong (all the time), but time marches on and waits for no one.  There is a much bigger plan out there than what I have envisioned for my life . . . sometimes you just have to “let go” and let it unfold!

“Live life and take chances.
Believe that everything happens for a reason and don’t regret.
Love to the fullest and you will find true happiness in life.
Realize that things go wrong and people change, but things do go on.
Sometimes things weren’t meant to be.
What is supposed to happen will work its way out.”
— Author Unknown
And here’s another quotation that is very similar . . .
“I believe that everything happens for a reason,
people change so that you can learn to let go,
things go wrong so that you can appreciate them when they’re right,
you believe lies so that eventually you learn to trust no one but yourself,
and sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can fall together!”

Where’s All the Spare Time?

October 9, 2009

Some late-week musings, as we rapidly approach yet another weekend  . . .  where has the week gone?   Busy people understand this concept better than anyone (see the first quotation)!   But at the same “time,” you must always be careful not to fill your time so completely, that you fail to enjoy life (see the second quotation).

“You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it.”  — Charles Buxton

“Carpe diem! Rejoice while you are alive; enjoy the day; live life to the fullest; make the most of what you have.  It is later than you think.”   — Horace
