Overcome the Noise!

July 27, 2016

I don’t know about you, but every now and then I struggle with my self-esteem.  More often than not, it is directly connected to my perfectionistic tendencies and the fact that most times, “good enough” really is good enough.  Other times, it is connected to the opinions of others that I forget are merely opinions.  So, here’s a quotation from Steve Jobs that is a healthy reminder to once again, be true to yourself.

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”  (Steve Jobs)

Strategic Renewal!

February 12, 2013

There was a very interesting opinion piece by Tony Schwartz published in the New York Times last week entitled “Relax!  You’ll Be More Productive.”  How often do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed at work?  Perhaps you are just in need of a strategic renewal.  From the sound of it, we could be working ourselves out of productivity.

“A new and growing body of multidisciplinary research shows that strategic renewal — including daytime workouts, short afternoon naps, longer sleep hours, more time away from the office and longer, more frequent vacations — boosts productivity, job performance and, of course, health.”

I’ve long been in favor of doing my workouts during the lunch hour and for years I did, then I changed jobs and well, I guess I just fell out of the habit; getting more sleep at night would definitely be a bonus; I’m certainly in favor of more frequent and longer vacations; and who wouldn’t love more time away from the office, right?  Basically, aside from the afternoon naps (a very tempting idea), most of these seem easily achievable.  So, why haven’t I yet instituted my strategic renewal?  Hmm, why indeed.
