Soaring Above the Rest!

February 10, 2018

Happy Saturday!  Looking for a project for the weekend?  Why not try this origami version of the bald eagle?  The American Bald Eagle, our national bird, is actually the only eagle that is unique to North America.  Happy folding!

The King of the Jungle!

January 9, 2018

So, lions have long been considered the “king of the jungle” despite not actually residing in the jungle.  Hmm, want to know why?  Bottom line, lions are “kings” due primarily to their raw power and strength.  Here is a challenging origami version of a lion.  Happy folding!

A Reindeer!

December 9, 2017

Happy Saturday!  Now that we are into December and the full-swing of the holiday season, here is a fun weekend project for creating a unique dinner table centerpiece . . . “on Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen” . . .  happy folding!

Spheniciformes!

November 9, 2017

Okay, I’ll speak English . . . penguins!  This aquatic, flightless bird lives predominantly in the Southern Hemisphere (only one species does not — the Galapagos Penguin can be found north of the Equator).  Here is an origami version that really does remind me of the Roman Catholics sisters (nuns) of my youth!

A Pachyderm Extraordinaire!

October 9, 2017

Happy Monday!  As we begin a new work week, here’s a great tutorial video on how to create an origami elephant (and with the Spanish subtitles, you can practice your foreign language skills as well).  Happy folding!

But if this full-sized version seems a bit too “large” or daunting for you, how about trying a smaller and simpler elephant bookmark?  Enjoy!

The American Bison!

September 9, 2017

Happy Saturday!  I have long been a fan of the American Bison, so here is an easy origami design (courtesy of the World Wildlife Fund) that you can use to create your own herd of these magnificent creatures.  Happy folding!  Here are the actual folding directions (in pdf format).

Bird of Paradise!

August 9, 2017

When it comes to exotic flowers, I’ve always been enthralled by the bird of paradise (native to South Africa).   I, of course, am not talented when it comes to growing or caring for plants.  But here is an origami version that will just have to do for those of us with other than green thumbs.  You’ll need a few extra materials besides the paper, but it will be well worth it.

Fidget Your Summer Away!

July 8, 2017

Happy Saturday!  Fidget spinners seem to be the rage right now, so if you are looking for an inexpensive way to acquire one (or more), here’s an origami version that does not require any ball bearings and is quick and easy to make.  Enjoy and happy fidgeting!

Creative Bookmarks!

June 5, 2017

Happy Monday!  Have you been looking for a fun project to create something really useful?  Try these origami bookmarks designs (one can never have enough bookmarks, right?).  Of course, you don’t have to create these “cute” designs if you just want to make a plain colored one — perfectly functional without the “cuteness” — but for a project with the kiddos, you may just want to give it a try.  Don’t like either of these designs?  Feel free to search for “origami bookmark” on youtube.com for other creative ideas.  Enjoy!  And, happy folding!

Necktie of the Month – April 2017!

April 3, 2017

This month I will not be highlighting a necktie from my personal collection, but rather I’ll be sharing a video I found for an origami version of a shirt and tie using a dollar bill.  Very cool indeed (obviously, the cleaner and crisper the dollar bill, the more stunning the look of this one).  Good luck and happy folding!
