Stones as Projectiles!

December 7, 2016

When I ran across this quotation today, it got me thinking about “throwing stones” and the other quotable sayings involving stones as projectiles.  Quotations to ponder!

“In this world, some people will always throw stones in your path. It depend on you what you make from those stones… A wall or a bridge!”  — Author Unknown

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”  (Jesus Christ, John 8:7, King James Bible)

“People who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.”  (Proverb)

“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.”  (Winston Churchill)

Out the Window!

October 21, 2012

An acquaintance of mine posted this word on facebook last week (right after the Vice-Presidential candidate debate; hmm, coincidental perhaps?) which made for an easy decision on which vocabulary word to post this week.  And voila!  Here it is.  Historically, “the word defenestration was used to refer to an act of political dissent” and “connotes the forcible or peremptory removal of an adversary.” (Wikipedia)  Certainly an interesting word to surface during an election year . . . if I were a political candidate, I would certainly avoid standing next to windows (especially ones above ground level).

\dee-fen-uhstrey-shuhn\, noun;

1. the act of throwing a thing or especially a person out of a window.
2. a usually swift dismissal or expulsion (as from a political party or office).
