Oxymoronic Insults!

Here are some oxymoron statements that are meant to insult.  The first couple are being flung at William Gladstone.  Enjoy!

“He has not a single redeeming defect.”  (Benjamin Disraeli, on William Gladstone)

“His leprosy is so perfect that men call him clean.”  (Coventry Patmore, on William Gladstone)

“He has impeccable bad taste.”  (Otis Ferguson, on a contemporary)

“If it were better, it wouldn’t be as good.'”   (Brendan Gill, on the play Butterflies Are Free)

“Deep down, he’s shallow.”  (Anonymous)
