Household Income!

I’m always running across interesting statewide comparisons on a variety of topics (thanks in part to the many magazines that I subscribe to and read).  This month, in the AARP Bulletin, there was a comparison of the estimated median household income for each state for 2011 (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico).  Here are the top-ten and bottom-ten when it comes to median household incomes.

The highest:
1. Maryland ($70,004)
2. Alaska ($67,825)
3. New Jersey ($67,458)
4. Connecticut ($65,753)
5. District of Columbia ($63,124)
6. Massachusetts ($62,859)
7. New Hampshire ($62,647)
8. Virginia ($61,882)
9. Hawaii ($61,821)
10. Delaware ($58,814)

The lowest:
43. Oklahoma ($43,225)
44. South Carolina ($42,367)
45. New Mexico ($41,963)
46. Louisiana ($41, 734)
47. Tennessee ($41,693)
48. Alabama ($41,415)
49. Kentucky ($41,141)
50. Arkansas ($38,758)
51. West Virginia ($38, 482)
52. Puerto Rico ($18,660)
